You can find out who your advisor is by viewing your class schedule within Self-Service. Your advisor is listed at the bottom of the page.

    • The advisor’s role is to assist the student in course selection, choosing a major, and serves as a resource for the full range of academic issues that a student may encounter.
    • Although an academic advisor is available for counsel, the ultimate responsibility for meeting the requirements for graduation remains with the student.
    • Traditional first year students are registered for their first semester classes by the Registrar’s Office and are advised by their First-Year Experience professor or a Professional Academic Advisor until he or she submits a declaration of major. Transfer students are also registered by the Registrar’s Office and then assigned an advisor based upon their major area of interest.
    • Adult students are registered for their first semester classes by the Adult Degree Program staff and are assigned an advisor once the semester begins.
    • Once a student declares a major, a faculty member from that department is assigned as his or her advisor.

Students are encouraged to meet with their assigned academic advisor to plan their academic schedule. During the meeting, the advisor will authorize (approve) your registration in order for you to register online. Once your registration has been authorized, you can register for classes online using Self-Service beginning on the date registration opens for your class level.

You can contact your advisor by email, phone or office visit. If planning on visiting your advisor’s office, you may want to contact them first by phone and schedule an appointment. When you are assigned an advisor, you will find their name on the bottom of your schedule available in Self Service.
